€49,00
The map "The Island and Kingdom of Sicily" shows Sicily and its coastal waters in a detailed cartographic representation. The underlying land survey dates back to a journey by Robert Mylne in 1757, who relied on earlier surveys by Baron de Schmettau as well as other cartographers. The map was not printed until 1788 by Robert Sayer in London.
The island is surrounded by three seas: the Tyrrhenian to the north, the Ionian to the east, and the African to the south. Central cities such as Palermo, Messina, Catania, and Siracusa are marked, as is Mount Etna, whose height and circumference are noted in a comment. Dotted lines divide the island into the three historical provinces of Val di Mazzara, Val di Noto, and Val Demone.
Historical maps show signs of age and use, the intensity and nature of which vary depending on the map and its intended purpose. The offered print is a reproduction.
