The map of the Leeward Islands was created and published in 1858 by John Arrowsmith, a prominent cartographer and hydrographer to Queen Victoria. The map is a hand-colored copperplate engraving, typical of the cartography of that era. It shows the Leeward Islands, including Antigua, Montserrat, Barbuda, St. Kitts (St. Christopher), Nevis, Anguilla, the Virgin Islands, and Dominica.
The map depicts the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. Due to their strategic location and economic importance, particularly for sugar cane plantations and trade routes, this region was of great interest in the 19th century. It offers valuable insights into the colonial period and illustrates the influence of European powers in the Caribbean.
