The map "Provincia Ecclesiastica di Friburgo nell'Alemagna" shows the South German ecclesiastical province of Freiburg, embedded between Bavaria to the east, Switzerland to the south, and Austria. The associated dioceses of Limburg, Fulda, and Mainz are depicted in the north, as well as the eponymous Archdiocese of Freiburg in the Grand Duchy of Baden, which stretches as a narrow strip along the Rhine to the Swiss border. To the east of this lies the Kingdom of Württemberg with the episcopal city of Rottenburg, labeled and set apart independently. To the north, the Duchy of Nassau and the Duchy of Saxony also appear as adjacent territories. Episcopal sees such as Freiburg, Rottenburg, and Mainz are highlighted with red dots, with numerous smaller towns finely labeled. Mountain ranges such as the Black Forest are rendered with hatching, and rivers such as the Rhine and Neckar are drawn in detail. Calligraphic border labels identify the neighboring countries of Bavaria, Switzerland, and Austria. The map impressively illustrates the intricate ecclesiastical structure of Baden and Württemberg in the 19th century and shows how strongly diocesan boundaries overlapped with the German small states and kingdoms of that time.
