The map “Province Ecclesiastiche di Bourges e Bordeaux in Francia” shows the two western French ecclesiastical provinces of Bourges and Bordeaux. The western, pink-colored section encompasses the province of Bordeaux with the dioceses of Luçon, Poitiers, Angoulême, Périgueux, and Agen, as well as the eponymous city of Bordeaux on the Garonne. The eastern, yellow-orange section shows the province of Bourges with the dioceses of Limoges, Tulle, Clermont, Saint-Flour, and Le Puy. Surrounding dioceses such as Nantes, Angers, Tours, Blois, Nevers, Moulins, Lyon, Viviers, Mende, Rodez, Cahors, Auch, and Montauban are noted in calligraphy at the edge of the map, situating the two provinces within the broader French ecclesiastical structure. Episcopal sees such as Bourges, Limoges, Périgueux, Tulle, Saint-Flour, and Le Puy are marked with red dots, and numerous smaller towns are finely labeled. Mountain ranges of the Massif Central are depicted with hatching, and rivers such as the Garonne, Dordogne, and Loire are drawn in detail. The map illustrates the extensive ecclesiastical organization of western and central France in the 19th century with its numerous suffragan bishoprics.
