This wall map, titled "Pianta della Città di Firenze rilevata esattamente nell'Anno 1783," shows Florence from an oblique bird's-eye view. The original measured an impressive 154 x 143 cm and consisted of six copperplate engravings.
The dense street network, city walls with their gates, fortifications, and the sprawling Boboli Gardens behind the Palazzo Pitti in the upper right are drawn in detail. The corners of the map are adorned with Baroque depictions of putti and cartouches listing the churches and monasteries of the respective districts. Along the bottom edge are six small perspective views of significant buildings and squares in the city. The map was drawn by the surveyor Magnellei and engraved by the copperplate engraver Zocchi. It documents the transformation of the city of Florence by King Leopold.
The map is oriented to the south, which is an unusual view of the city for me.
