Atlas | Comparative table of the heights of the most important monuments | 1840

This detailed work entitled "Tableau comparatif de la Hauteur des Principaux Monuments" (Comparative Table of the Heights of Principal Monuments) is by Michel Perrot and was published by Basset Edr. around 1840. The original image dimensions are approximately 60 cm wide by 45 cm high. The work is part of a series of comparative charts capturing various global metrics. The subject matter includes well-known monuments from around the world, depicted on a single plane to allow viewers an easy comparison of their heights. This method was popular in the 19th century and reflected the fascination with exploring the world and comparing human achievements. Landmarks: The copper engraving presents a variety of architectural styles, including Gothic, Classicism, and Islamic influences. Notable structures likely include European cathedrals, the Pyramids of Giza, and other iconic buildings. Inscriptions: Below the illustrations is a detailed French text containing the names of the monuments, their heights, and construction dates. This provides pedagogical context and reflects the era's interest in encyclopedic knowledge. The graphics show illustrated comparison tables from the "Atlas of Tableau Comparatifs" published around 1840. The work was created in collaboration by authors Charles André Basset, Aristide V. Monin, and Michel Perrot and was issued by the publisher Basset Editeur in Paris.
