It is part of a composite map series, consists of four sections, and measures 112 x 142 cm in its original form.
The map depicts the South American continent. It shows important geographical features such as the Andes, the Amazon, and the extensive coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. The political borders reflect the historical context of the 1830s—a period characterized by significant political changes and the emergence of new nations in South America following independence movements from Spanish and Portuguese rule.
Thus, the map provides insights into the geopolitical landscape of South America during a time of transition. The detailed representation of borders and regions is indicative of the post-colonial restructuring taking place across the continent as newly independent states shaped their national identity.

Historical maps bear traces of time and use, the intensity and nature of which vary depending on the map and its intended purpose.
